SUBJ: The life of Christ in us and with us.

AIM: That we might so live as to call attention to the work of Christ in us.

1. Types and shadows compared to suggestion and illustration.
2. This feast and its implications (Consider Abraham on seeing the Lord approach).
3. At this point, Lazarus was the focus, but Christ was the issue in all minds.

THESIS: We are the light of the world, but the light in us is Christ and it is He that is to be seen. Our lives bear witness to Him.

I. Lazarus as the co-attraction with Christ
1. Review and emphasize the importance of the resurrection of Lazarus.
2. The event reviewed as an important Gospel picture.
3. Who came? The curious, the doubting, the believing. (And see: (Acts 3:10 KJV) And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. AND (Acts 4:14 KJV) And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
4. Jesus and His work....” for which work.” And SF (John 10:25 KJV) Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. AND (John 10:32 KJV) Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? AND (Acts 2:22 KJV) Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
5. Consider other miracles of healing, of New wine, etc.

II. Lazarus as the resurrected one.
1. By just being there alive. “I am what I am.”
2. How different is this New Life – a radical distinction is suggested.
3. Mary worships, Martha serves, Lazarus is there with Jesus.
4. (Judas is exposed.)
5. The significance of Christ abiding with Lazarus – Not a trophy, but one greatly loved.

III. Lazarus as the Living testimony
1. Consider the reaction of the opponents (recall the blind man and the confrontations)
2. Lazarus and dealing with “from death unto life.”
3. Lazarus’ demeanor:
1) Never spoke
2) Never claimed any credit
3) Never claimed any merit
4) Yet was he known because of what Christ had done – no nominal Christian – but he was with Jesus.
4. The question for us – the evidence of new life in us and the cultivation of it.
